The novel methods of indirectly measuring bone protein structure, related to the presence of disulfide bonds were investigated. Two groups of nine subjects were identified. The Raman spectrometer was configured to analyze between 300 and 700cm-1. The results show that the lower modulii of the fingernails sourced from osteoporotic patients, coupled with decreased disulfide bond content is consistent with similar measurable structural changes within bone.
