Abstract

Results will be presented of precise orbit determinations for CHAMP using GPS code and phase data in a reduced dynamical procedure with the orbital accuracy quantified by reference to independant satellite laser ranging tracking. The resultant Cartesian positioning will be used as input data for geodynamical inferences from CHAMP including scale and bias for the accelerometer data, thruster events and the Earth's static and time varying gravity field. In particular, temporal variability in the lower order and degree harmonics will be investigated for seasonal signatures. The accuracy of the CHAMP gravity field recovery procedures will be assessed through theoretical and numerical simulations. These simulations will be extended to the inter-satallite range data of the GRACE mission with the objective of understanding the aliasing of high frequency signals into the monthly GRACE gravity field solutions.
