Knowledge on wave loads and motions of ships and offshore structures is important both in design and operational studies. And for drilling operations heave motion is a limiting factor. The reason is that vertical motion of the risers has to be compensated and there are limitations to how much motion can be compensated. At the same time pitch and roll is significant to design structures together with low motion response so that it can be possible to work as many times as possible. Especially Semi-submersibles are good examples of offshore structures with very low heave motion response in the actual frequency domain, and the most common and useful type of mobile offshore structures. In my research a new generation semi-submersible have been carried out. The proposed semi-submersible would be cheap and quick to build, based on standard cubic boxes constructed by stiffed flat panel line assembly techniques, as conducted in modern shipbuilding. Also assessment in the Aspects of Hydrodynamic and structural Design has been carried out.
