Abstract

The electron-photon coincidence/correlation methods have been used to study the influence of the 3lnl′ autoionizing states in helium on simultaneous ionization-excitation to the He+(2p) state. Measured He+(2p) double differential cross sections as a function of outgoing electron energy (at a fixed angle of 5°) show clear evidence of these states. Similarly, observed differences in the anisotropies of electron-photon angular correlations for this excited ion state may be due to contributions from these indirect ionization processes.
