The comparison of photodegradation behavior of blends of virgin polypropylene with recycled polypropylene of the same grade, obtained from moldings subjected to photo-oxidation and from the moldings not photo-oxidized, was presented. It was found that the photodegradation developed more rapidly in the samples containing recyclate derived from moldings which suffered photodegradation in their first life than those which were not exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation prior to reclamation. The analysis suggested that the photo-degraded material acted as a pro-degradant upon recycling.
