An exploratory data analysis tool termed the comap is introduced. This is essentially a geographical variant of the coplot, an exploratory graphical method to investigate the relationship between a pair of variables conditioned on a third variable (and perhaps also a fourth). In the comap, the first pair of variables represent geographical location, and the graphical technique is adapted to reflect this. After the concept of the comap is discussed and an example is given, computational aspects are considered. The paper concludes with a brief discussion. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
