In Gottfried von Strasburg's version of the 'Tristan'-story, Tristan and Isolde sing a "Leise" (vernacular antiphon ending in a 'kyrieleis') when leaving Ireland. In my paper, I argue that this singular piece of sacred music in the midst of courtly lais and songs, is used in a parodistic way. I show this in looking into the different forms of music making in the novel and in the history of the "Leise" as such and the specific Leise "In gotes namen varn wir" in particular.
