Abstract

This article presents an interview with investigative journalist Matt Kennard, an alumnus of the Columbia School of Journalism and the Centre for Investigative Journalism. Kennard has previously worked for the Financial Times and currently writes for Declassified UK. The interview focuses on two key aspects of his recent work: first, his new book co-written with Claire Provost, Silent Coup: How Corporations Overthrew Democracy (2023), and second, his investigative work at Declassified UK. Both aspects are united by an interest in the growth and concentration of corporate power, the role of MNCs in neo-colonialism (or neo-imperialism), and the critical importance of journalism and activism in exposing and resisting these phenomena.
