Body tissue preservation system 100 for storage and preservation of body tissue 30. The system comprises a body tissue monitor to determine the status of the body tissue 30. The monitor comprises one or more sensors 84/86 which obtain sensor data based on a plurality of measurements of the body tissue 30 and environment surrounding it, and a controller 80 which: receives sensor data; detects trigger events where data satisfies a first threshold; selects a window of sensor data (e.g. time window) associated with each trigger event; identify a subset of data corresponding to the selected window; determining (for each selected window) whether the corresponding identified subset of sensor data satisfies a second threshold criterion; determining status of the body tissue based on the identified subset which satisfies the second threshold criterion; and providing a status output signal based on the determined status. Also disclosed is a computer program to perform this task. The body tissue may be extracorporeal and the system may monitor and signal the viability of tissue intended for transplant. The body tissue may be held in a container 10 comprising persufflate fluid 34 and the sensor 84/86.
