This is an industry guide to the leading ende research and implementations of smartcards in transport in 1994, for the Industry Guide produced by Smart Card News for 1995/96. This is a unique glimpse at the state of the art of thinking around the use of smartcards in transportation, in this very early stage of application development. It includes the early research funded by the European Commission under their DRIVE I and DRIVE II research programmes through the projects ADEPT and GAUDI, the Cambridge Congestion Metering trial and the assessment of the candidate systems for the Singapore ERP system among a range of other innovative applications of the time.
