Existing charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) are overloading the distribution networks. Most of the recent works involve the usage of renewable energy sources at the households to mitigate the issues on the distribution grid. For charging an EV in a household, solar energy is the best and viable solution to carry out. Sizing the PV system depends on the EV type and the daily driving profile. This paper addresses the problem of sizing a PV system with considering the vehicle specifications, the driving profile (speed, daily travelled distance, and number of passenger), and the geographical location of the household. A mathematical model of the EV is developed and integrated into the PV sizing algorithm. Results quantify the impacts of the different parameters on the PV size for the considered case study.
