Electric vehicles’ power consumption is influenced by several factors such as driving behaviours, route structure, traffic density and ambient temperature. This paper attempts to investigate the available public data that can be used to estimate the power consumption of (EVs). We have explored data provided from OpenStreetMap (OSM) which provides various APIs for data collection to produce some realistic driving cycles for a specific journey. These driving cycles represents the driving style in the form of velocity, acceleration and deceleration. Graphhopper is an API used to obtain the route data, including the route directions, segments and elevation. Overpass API is another service from OSM that allows identifying the traffic lights on the route so we can determine when the vehicle potential stops. After the driving cycle is generated based on these data, we then used an electric vehicle parameters to estimate the power demand and energy consumption of the vehicle on that route. This approach can be implemented for any route as long as the data of that route is available.
