This is a Policy Brief of the WATERLAT-GOBACIT Research Network (http://waterlat.org/policy-briefs/).It discusses the mining disasters of Mariana (2015) and Brumadinho (2019) in Brazil as examples of the production and reproduction of unacceptable socio-ecological inequalities and includes policy recommendations oriented at the protection of human lives and the compensation of damages to affected local communities.
