Transportation networks play an essential role in the well-being of a community. The condition of these networks following a disaster influence in a large degree the recovery during the post-disaster phases. The proposed methodology presented in this research paper is a participatory not structural mitigation action in the road infrastructure. The methodology has 4 parts: (1) introductory questions, (2) learning with puzzles, (3) learning about post-disaster phases and (4) learning with vehicles and construction machines. The methodology was applied to Chilean high school students in an age range from 11 to 15 years old. Before this exercise, the students only identified the relief as the post-disaster phase, but not the other post-disaster phases. Despite their age range, the participants were able to answer several of the introductory questions. They found easily comparable the exercise of making a puzzle with the reconstruction of a city. Participants managed to identify vehicles related to the relief phase, some related to the recovery and early recovery and even some others with a more ambiguous character that can be used either in the relief or in the development phase. The outstanding performance of this group of participants can be explained by the high level of seismic hazard of Chile and that almost half of them have experience earthquakes and probably have been witnesses of reconstruction processes. This is an innovative and ludic approach methodology that elaborates on the knowledge and experience related to post-disaster phases
