This paper integrates current knowledge on how social networks influence individual choices of action at times of organizational crisis. We focus here on the relative salience of three types of social networks (intra-organizational, professional, and local community) to develop an integrative treatment of how multiple network influences can shape the range of possible responses to organizational withdrawals, including relocation decisions or closures. Such embedding can lead to a preference for (a) individual or collective and (b) direct or indirect forms of response, each differently affecting the industrial ecosystem. The paper, therefore, provides a theoretical contribution to the management and organization studies literature on the influence of social networks on individuals’ preferred unit of action and mode of action when responding to organizational turbulence.
