A "lost classic", out of print for 20 years, this summarises the findings of a two-year study of disadvantage in rural Scotland, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the Scottish Consumer Council, Rural Forum and the RSABI. It examines rural disadvantage from the perspective of those who live and work in rural Scotland, revealing high levels of rural poverty, and investigates the multi-dimensional interaction of issues including housing, transport, employment and identity in shaping people's life chances and experiences of rural life. This publication was launched by Paddy Ashdown in September 1994 and was a major influence on the Scottish Office's subsequent Rural White Paper.
