© 2015 IEEE.Over recent years, television sets have increased in size steadily while also decreasing in price. S3D content has also become more easily accessible, with lowering prices and an improvement in content quality. We are interested in how these developments have been reflected in viewing habits and particularly the distance at which today's large televisions are viewed from. This study measured the viewing habits, via a survey, of a population recruited in North East England. S3D content was not viewed regularly (0.9% of participants viewing more than 1 hour per week) in the home or at the cinema. People viewed television from around 2-4m, with only a weak tendency to view larger television sets from a longer viewing distance. Assumptions about typical viewing distance / screen size relationships may need to be revised since the introduction of larger screen televisions at a cheaper price.
