Long-lasting human action has transformed high-altitude Alpine environments into productivelandscapes, mainly through the action of herders and hay-makers. In this paper, wepresent a case of modification of periglacial-like land into human-mitigated landscape: theVal Molinac and Val Poré, two upland valleys tributaries of Val di Sole (Trento, Italy). Researchundertaken in the area shows the existence of a well-preserved pastoral systemthat dates from at least the 15th century AD and was still in use until recent years, whosemain purpose was the exploitation of such marginal mountain environment.
