This article examines Marguerite Duras’ philosophical position on the question of Time. Drawing on Mircéa Eliade’s analysis of the concepts of time and history in Le Mythe de l’éternel retour, it demonstrates how Duras’ writings are built on an unresolved dialectic articulation between a ‘mythical time’ and a ‘secular time’, where the writer’s pronounced historical and political consciousness and the marked historicism of her works are caught in tension with her sharp sense of nostalgia for a suspended primeval time, beyond the boundaries of historical time.
