Urban climate is an effective issue on the local and global climates which is influenced by several factors such urban morphology and density, the properties of urban surfaces and vegetation cover. This paper discusses the influence of vernacular urban design attribute to the Arabic Saharan architecture on outdoor thermal comfort in the Islamic Quarter of Cairo, Egypt, from a quantitative perspective. Nine sites with different urban geometry, aspect ratio, ground cover and sky view factor (SVF) were studied during the hot summer season. The environmental parameters affecting thermal comfort, air temperature, humidity, wind speed and global temperature, were measured, and the thermal comfort was estimated by calculating the physiological equivalent temperature (PET).
