The modulation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is constantly being developed either to explore the channel diversity or reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the OFDM signal. This paper presents a new, very low complexity OFDM system, using a single unitary X-transform with zero-padding (ZP) and minimum mean-square error (MMSE) equalizer. Mathematical development supported by simulation results showed that, over multipath channels, the proposed ZP-X-OFDM scheme is better than the conventional ZP-OFDM. Moreover, the proposed system significantly reduces the transceiver complexity of the OFDM system and improves the bit-error-rate (BER) and the PAPR of the OFDM signal significantly.
