This article is a criticism of Vehkalahti parish centre, Hamina, Finland by Kapy and Simo Paavilainen. It discussed the motifs of the building, which are rooted to the old environment. This building avoids the normal confusion of the contextualist buildings, for it has a very impressive focused spatial organisation, with a sunken main hall, which opens towards the old medieval stone church. The design is mastering the environment as a whole: it pleasantly reveals the old bastion behind the yard.
