The article is comparing six new office buildings in Helsinki area in Finland. The fashion of glass facade (Biocentre 3 by Olli-Pekka Jokela) is compared with the traditional wall structure (Innopoli 2 by Kaarina Lofstrom), and the kombi office plan of Arabiakeskus (by Arkkitehdit Tommila) is compared with open plan of Senate-building (by Heikkinen Komonen). The difficulties of office design are discussed in terms of economics and spatial organisation (Paciuksenkatu 21 by Tuomo Siitonen and AV keskus by ARK-house). The author acknowledges the difficulties with clashing aims in office design: that of flexibility and that of image provoking. In best cases the two aims are not compromised but clearly solved. In those cases the corporation has succeeded in finding a particular style of a particular architectural office matching with its image strategy; not so that the architectural office has been lucky in translating the goals of the corporation to architectural language.
