Kati Blom touches on a pressing issue in architectural discourse in her recent blog post entitled, “Concretism and Critique”. Blom recounts her one of her experiences at a conference this summer as she describes a contemporary polarity between today’s Modernists and their antagonists. Blom offers the word ‘concretism’ in an effort to describe the work and rhetoric of these antagonists. She defines the term as “the materially based, practical approach to architecture.” Yet what exactly this materially based, practical approach to architecture amounts to remains somewhat elusive.
