A semi-multimedia language is one that satisfies either of two properties: (i) its syntax contains primitives from more than one medium, or (ii) its data types enable the building of multimedia structures. A language with both of these is fully multimedia. Questions that arise in the design of such a language include how multimedia ""constants"" should be declared and parameterized, and to what extent redundancy should be incorporated among the media, to make the language more tolerant of mechanical or human imperfections. These questions are considered within the framework of viz, a 3D visual language designed to simplify the depiction of declarative programs, specifications, proofs, and temporal formulae.
