A number of aspects of collocation methods are considered in this paper. First, a brief survey of the background and development of collocation methods for ordinary differential equations is given. Secondly, error analysis, particularly for boundary value problems is considered. This shows that in suitable circumstances very reliable estimates are available. Thirdly, stability and invariant properties are discussed along with applications to differential equations with singular points, including the analytic singular value decomposition problem.
