The global error estimation process introduced by H. J. Stetter and reviewed with practical improvements by L. Dalle Rive and F. Pasciutti is discussed with reference to explicit Runge-Kutta methods and further modifications are suggested. It is demonstrated that this process can be unsatisfactory when applied to a problem which suffers from inherent instability.
