Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study undertaken in Leeds, UK to determine whether daily variations in PM10, NO2, CO and O3 levels over a period of five years were associated with daily variations in cause-specific daily mortality. Associations between daily mortality, and daily temperatures and relative humidity were also established. The associations between non-accidental mortality and air pollution levels were estimated after accounting for seasonal fluctuations in the mortality time series, non-Poisson dispersion and weather variables. This study has found evidence of associations between non-accidental mortality and air pollution levels. This association is stronger for PM10 and NO2.
