Microscopic modelling of traffic can provide more meaningful results in the prediction of pollution and noise generated by traffic than 'traditional' models based on macroscopic aggregation because the vehicles' position, speed and accelaration are calculated at e ach simulation time step that can be as low as 0.1 sec. This paper presents pollution (CO, CO2, NOx, FC, HC, PM) and noise predictions as a result of the application of 20 mph scheme and/or traffic calming for a town in Yorkshire. It also shows the advantage of representing speed-flow profiles through simulation rather than through mathematical modelling.
