Locative media instantiations and mappings of boundaries, as exemplified by a number of recent artist experiments, are set in the perspective of early theatre history and its definition of boundaries and framing rhetoric to create live art. Theatrical events to explore territorial limits and different kinds of social gatherings, sometimes seen as "theatre archaeology", are discussed as possibly valuable precursors for current locative media developments.
