Abstract

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows: 1. To determine the efficacy of antiglucocorticoid drugs: 1.1 in improving mood symptoms in unipolar depression and bipolar disorder 1.2 in improving neuropsychological function in mood disorders 1.3 on patients' general health and social functioning as measured by clinical global impression 2. To assess the acceptibility of short-term treatment with antiglucocorticoid drugs to patients, measured by reference to patients' expressed views regarding treatment and patient satisfaction 3. To investigate the adverse effects of antiglucocorticoid drug treatment, including the general prevalence of side effects. The prevalence of the following adverse effects will be investigated: Switch to depression Switch to mania Switch to a mixed affective state Malaise Lethargy Dizziness Confusion Headache Hypotension Abdominal pain Nausea and vomiting Liver dysfunction Rashes Angioedema Thrombocytopenia Parasthesia Photophobia Alopecia Hirsutism Gynaecomastia Death
